Over the past five months, we looked at how 581 students were actually using the IBonomics AI Tutor. That gave us a pretty clear picture of what was useful, what was frustrating, and what needed fixing.
So we made a few changes.
🎯 Free students now get 10 messages a day, up from 3.
A lot of students were simply hitting the limit while they were still studying. More than a third of free study days ended because the message cap was reached, so we increased it.
📊 The tutor is now much more careful with diagrams.
Before, if you asked for something like a monopoly diagram, it could sometimes give you the wrong type of diagram with far too much confidence.
Now, if it cannot draw a diagram properly, it will say so. It will explain what the diagram should look like and point you towards one of our 82 worked IB Economics diagram pages instead.
It can still generate the diagrams it does well, including AD–AS, supply and demand, exchange rates, labour markets and the PPC.
🗺️ Big questions now get better answers.
If you ask something broad like “explain all of microeconomics”, the tutor will first give you a clear overview of the topic instead of throwing a huge wall of text at you.
You can then follow up with something more specific, like “monopolies” or “unit 2.2”, and go deeper from there.
👉 We also added suggested follow-up questions.
After an answer, you may now see one or two suggested next questions that you can click, edit and send.
📝 It understands IB exam formats better too.
You can ask about Paper 1, Paper 3 calculations, IA commentaries and other IB-specific tasks, and the tutor will respond with that format in mind.
For teachers, one of the biggest changes is that the tutor now points students towards worked diagrams instead of trying to improvise diagrams it does not handle well. HL-only content is also flagged for SL students.
If you want to see the difference, try asking it:
"draw me a monopoly diagram"
and then:
"explain all of microeconomics"
