Rule of thumb – This phrase refers a practical and approximate way of doing something, without having to be exact. It is about judging a situation based on experience which affects choices in trying to meet economic objectives, such as consumers aiming to maximize their utility. As a rule of thumb, people tend to stick to their default choice.
